Let me just point out what has been done already
- esxi host installed sitting on vmnet2
- vcenter server, SSO installed sitting on vmnet2 ( 2008 server)
- ubuntu vm sitting on vmnet2
- all of these instances are a VM sitting in vmware workstation
- 1 physical box that has server2008 is host to all of this
I am trying to understand if the way I have set it up is "ideal" for training.
I want to set up a data store somewhere within there that will hold say, my .iso's for creating new vm's.
How can I set it up or implement it so that on my physical box, there is a folder there that would be accessible to my vcenter server?
Thanks.

http://www.labguides.com/2014/03/11/autolab-v1-5-with-vsphere-5-5-support/
It can greatly expedite your lab setup. I used it to automate the install of vSphere 5.0 (includes AD, DHCP, DNS, etc) and performed a manual upgraded to vSphere 5.5.
