Laptop losing focus?

for a few months now I've had a problem with my compaq windows 8 laptop losing focus on whatever screen I have up. For example I will be typing on word and it will lose focus on the screen for around 5 seconds, this will happen every 5ish minutes... just can't find the cause.

Does it do this no matter what other programs you have open? Sounds like something else is taking focus, but not showing up.

Next time this happens, hit Alt-Tab to see what has the focus.
