Any books geared to the day to day duties of an admin?

I'm looking for books that are not geared to passing an exam but more for handling day to day job functions. Any books similar to 'The Practice of System and Network Administration' and 'Time Management for System Administrators' that might be more up to date?

When I saw the thread title I was actually going to suggest those 2 books haha. I haven't read them yet, but I'm in the middle of "Time Management..." now and have "The Practice of System and Network Administration" on my Amazon wishlist.

I know of "Essential System Administration" and "Unix and Linux System Administration." However, they're both *NIX based, and judging by the part of the forum you put this thread + your certs, I don't think that's what you're looking for.

Additionally, there's "TCP/IP Adminsitration" and "Network Warrior," which are *NIX and Cisco focused, respectively. Don't seem to be what you want either.

What did you think of "The Practice of System and Network Administration?" What is it that makes you want to read another book on the topic? Maybe is there a sub-topic you could read about instead? (Such as a tech book on a specific Microsoft Server skill that's not directly tied to any certification.)

Learn: Terraform, Kubernetes, Prometheus & Golang | Improve: Docker, Python Programming

I have not ordered 'The Practice of...' yet because of the publish date. I may just order it or see if anyone has a really good blog that might be similar.

While I'm studying towards Server 2012 certs right now I'm interested in these types of books because I manage a group of administrators and meet regularly with different types of systems, network and desktop engineers but don't perform any their jobs. While long term I need to study a number of technologies more in depth I figure a book like this would be the best bang for the buck time wise.

I don't think the 2007 print date should be too much of a problem. I'm pretty sure the book is more of an of overview of SA duties as a whole, as opposed to getting down into the nitty-gritty details of the technology used.

Regardless of what you end up doing, keep me updated. As you may be able to tell, I'm looking for something somewhat similar at the moment.
