Cisco 2051 - PC connection

Hi,
I am new to Cisco. I bought 2 x 2501 routers from ebay. It came with 2 transceivers.

My PC
192.168.0.1
255.255.255.0

On router E0
192.168.0.10
255.255.255.0

I connected the Transceiver to AUI port on 2501 and with cross-cable to my PC. But on the router it is always shown as;

2501(boot)#show int
Ethernet0 is up, line protocol is down

Protocol is always down, because of this I can not ping.
I did "no shutdown" on E0, you see it from Ethernet01 is up.
I tested it with the other transiever, it is the same.
Where do I l make a mistake?

Are you sure your crossover cable is working properly? Are you sure the NIC on your PC is working properly?

Yah, most probably the cable, NIC or the connector. How about the serial ports?

hmmm....i have doubts on my mind here.....i wonder does the E0 interface on the router support direct cable rather than cross over? since normally the E0 would be connect to a switch using a direct cable right? correct me if i am wrong noobie here ^^ thx
