Hello all,
Just wanted to give a heads up to those in Europe paying for their own exams that you can avoid VAT on your VMware VCP & VCAP certifications! As far as I can see US/Canada/Australia don't charge VAT (sales tax) on these exams, however in Europe we do. Obviously VAT adds a minimum of 20% to your purchase price of exams through Pearson VUE.
VCP's Excluding VAT = € 175 / £ 145
VCAP's Excluding VAT = € 310 / £ 260
If you visit the VMware Certification Marketplace you can purchase the voucher for your relevant country, however there is a little trick to save a minimum of 20% all year round. Here are the steps:
1. Go to ShipIto.com and register for a free address in Nevada, California, Oregon, and Austria. (Oregon has no state sales taxes)
2. You must have requested the exam authorization from VMware first. Then you can check the location where you are taking the exam at Pearson VUE. Warning - Not everywhere does VCAP exams!
3. Order your VCP or VCAP voucher selecting *the country you are taking the exam in!* Seems obvious but it might not be.
4. Change the shipping address to the US and Oregon with Zip 97062. Check there is no VAT - Woohoo!!
5. Click on the "Proceed to Checkout" button at the bottom.
6. Now you will be presented with a page with a Billing address & a Shipping address. Fill the Billing with your credit card address and the Shipping Address with your ShipIto address. You won't receive anything at the shipping address.
7. You will receive an email with your voucher code and this is completely legal and the same as any other purchase to a US address. You are charged in US Dollars so your bank will charge you a little bit extra to convert to your home currency. I got charged ~€315 for a VCAP voucher.
Office Hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 7pm Central US Time - it takes a little while for the voucher to come through so try not to order on a Friday like I did!!
But I just got my voucher... and saved € 66 per exam!
Enjoy!!
