can't ping form computer
amp10000
Guys I'm playing around with learning static routes and soon rip and ospf. I have 3 routers that I'm using in my test lab. I would like to know why would you be able to ping a pc form the router but not from the computer. Basically I'm consoled in to a router if I ping the system from the console everything works fine but if I ping it from the computers command prompt its a no go. If this is not a info I will draw a network diagram and link it to my website.

if you have winxp service pack 2 installed, turn off that firewall.

It's not a xp firewall problem that was the first thing I checked. I'm going to post a network diagram and more about my setup.

What does the route table on your computer look like. (type route print at the command prompt). It could be that your computer is recieving the echo request's but has no way to send back the replys. Could you run a sniffer and see what is happening?

You need to be more specific as to what you can and can not do. If your host is connected to router A and it can not ping its gateway but router A can ping the host you should look at the host's ipconfig. If the host can not reach router B or C but can reach its gateway you must start looking first at connectivity (interface states) then routing.

people don't realize their host is actually a single interface router (running the static routing protocol).
type
route print
from a dos prompt
"default gateway" is synonomous to a default route.
where do i sent packets when the destination isn't in the arp table ?
