How do you monitor a bunch of domains for expiration

As an MSP I find that we have to keep track of a growing number of public domains. As we take on new clients who registered domains in their own accounts, I don't get any notification prior to expiration. Does anyone know of a good tool for monitoring and alerting on a large (1000+) amount of public domains?

Expect

if you have Nagios or something that is based on it (Opsview/Icinga) then there are plugins for that particular check
