I'm taking some practice tests for the 70-410 and a lot of the group policy questions are asking specific locations for certain elements in Group Policy Management Editor. Knowing there are thousands of items out there, I am wondering if the real test will ask questions like these? If so, what have others done to learn these paths/locations? Thanks!

shaun5263 Member Posts: 120 ■■■□□□□□□□Thanks for the reply. I have a pretty good understanding how group policy itself works, I'm just struggling when the questions ask where a particular item is and what it does. I feel like if I had it in front of me, I could find what I need fairly quick. Are there any online resources that may outline some of the more commonly used options in group policy?

I think as you spend more time studying for this exam and practicing your skills, you will end up getting familiar with the locations of some popular group policies. The best way to start understanding where some group policies are located is, understanding that group policies are divided into two categories namely the computer and user containers or settings, so if you want configure a group policy with the setting that will affect a user, you will have to configure the settings under the user's category/container, like wise if you want to configure a setting that will affect a computer, you will have to configure it under the computer category/container and these categories have their sub-categories or sub-containers as well, like, windows settings, administrative templates or preference etc. Group policies have a large scope of topics through out the MCSA exams, so like I said you will get to understand and get familiar with this once you start studying them, James Conrad's CBT Nuggets series covers this topic in detail. I also think you need to get the exam's objectives in order to find out what you might come across in the exam and you also need to watch this presentation it will give you information about the exam: Exam Prep: 70-410 and 70-417 - MCSA: Windows Server 2012 (repeats on May 13 at 5:00pm) | TechEd North America 2014 | Channel 9"It's better to try and fail than to fail to try." shaun5263 Member Posts: 120 ■■■□□□□□□□Thanks for the info Snow.bros! I've been hitting group policy pretty hard on my server VMs the past few days and am feeling much more comfortable with general item locations. I think it is just the practice tests I am using that ask a few obscure locations for settings that had me a little stressed out. I have a subscription to the pluralsight/trainsignal videos and have watched all of them for the 70-410 pertaining to group policy. I've also read the exam ref book cover to cover (very basic overview) as well as the chapter on group policy in the Mastering 2012 R2 book. I may check out the CBT Nuggets videos, as I saw you can sign up for a free 7 day trial.
