Virtualization for IT Auditing: Learning Fundamentals and Earning Certification

What are good ways to learn the fundamentals of virtualization for employment in IT auditing? Any certifications come to mind?

I've been told that expert level certification isn't necessary, but it would be nice demonstrate a basic understanding and speak competently with IT professionals that specialize in virtualization.
