How to get job opportunities? Without applying

So I am kinda looking for the right job to come around. I have heard of people getting recruiters and have also heard of people getting contacted by employers for job opportunities they had not applied for. Does anyone have any other advice on how to get job opportunities, while not having to go job listing by job listing and applying for each one?

I know I will have to do these things:

1. Create a Linkdin
2. Register with job websites and submit resume
3. Get a recruiter?
4.????

Any other advice? Also, can I PM someone my resume before I start this process.

Network yourself. If the right people know you're looking, they'll contact you...whether that be recruiters, teammates, hiring managers, or just someone at that company.

If/when you work with a recruiter, don't sign anything off the bat. You can talk to them (introduction, tell them what you're looking for) without signing anything.

Also, do job searches via keyword to see what's hot, then include those words (relevant to your search) when you post your resume online. This will increase your chances of turning up in their searches.
