Hyper-V in Win8 network connection issue.
wd40
Hi All,
I am trying to use Hyper-V on windows 8 to "play with" different Linux types, however I am not able to configure networking correctly to allow the guests to access internet.
I googled the issue and it appears that this is a common issue that people face with Hyper-V but I was not able to fix it after following the instructions on various sites.
My setup is: Desktop computer with WiFi (Ethernet available), I tried with WiFI and Ethernet, in Both cases I could not get it to connect.
Thanks.

I havent been able to replicate the issue you are describing. I just setup an external switch and created a VM. Works flawlessly.
Any more information on the problem?

Yeah what switch are you using for your Hyper-V networking? External's the only one that'll get you to the internet without some kind of router.

Thanks for the replies.
This worked for Windows 10 but it is not working for Linux "Ubuntu in this case"
Any advise appreciated.
Thanks.

Your set up looks correct. Just to clarify, your WiFi works outside of Hyper-V? Also, have you actually configured the network card in Ubuntu ?
You might also want to try to create a
Generation 2 VM
with Ubuntu

Thanks Itrimble
I downloaded 14.04 and it worked without any configuration changes! it even knew that it was being installed as a virtual machine.
I think some of the other operating systems that I tried to use can not work with my Wifi Card ..
