Motherboard for ESXi 5.5
MrAgent
Hello Everyone.
I need to build a new lab machine here at home, and I am looking for recommendations for a motherboard which supports ESXi 5.5. I plan on getting an Intel i7 4790k, so I need an Intel board.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I have not built any whitebox/custom ESXi hosts but find it runs on just about anything I throw at it. 5.5 is a little more picky where it PSOD'd on a G5 DL160 but runs fine on a DL380 G5. I think it mainly had to do with the storage controller. So like anything else, see what the Hardware Compatability Guide shows.

Supermicro X9SRH-7TF motherboard
Intel Xeon E5-2609 v2 CPU
Noctua NH-U9DX I4 heat sink
Kingston KVR16R11D4/16HA 16GB DDR3-1600MHZ ECC x 4 (64GB)

Mine is on Asus MicroATX B85M-E board
i7-4790 (non K) cpu
and 4port intel 82575gb gigabit nic.
Low power consuption vs. my 2nd box on dual xeon 55xx.

I ended up buying an ASRock Z97X Killer, which apparently ESXi 5.5 does not recognize the NIC.
So now I am looking for a Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2200 Series driver for ESXi.
Ill find it one of these days.
