Not Allowed a 2nd Job

So, aside from non-compete and other privacy disclosures. One of the stipulations in my employee contract is that I cannot "render professional services of any kind to anyone or any company without written consent of the company."

Not looking for a 2nd job, per say. I just think it'd be cool to do a few weekend hours at a movie theater or something to stay in contact with people (I'm shoved in a server room all day).

That means I need to ask to become floor staff at a theater? :O

If that job has you on call 24/7 or required lots of after hours and weekend work thats going to be tough.
I had a job like this but there were too many issues when I told my employer i was going back to school.
I went to another company and it works out more better.
Ask your boss if hes willing to work with you first.

Easy, just make sure they classify you as an Amateur Floor Staff Member. Nothing professional there icon_smile.gif

I think the "any kind to anyone or any company" blanket statement covers the theater scenario. If you agreed to this policy by signing, you have two options: inform them and get their blessing, or knowingly violate it and face the consequences.

How high up the food chain are you?

A lot of mid-range and higher jobs, especially in infosec, make you sign contracts to that extent to make sure 100% of your focus is on the main job and you don't make a major error because you're too tired or thinking about something else.

If you are working for a company that renders contract work to clients, they also want to make sure you're not undercutting their clients on the side.
