ForestPrep and DomainPrep?

Hi All,
I'm in the process of upgrading a Server 2008 r2 to Server 2012 r2 in my test environment. I was at the point of running forestPrep and was wondering whether I would need to also do a domainprep?
What are the exact purpose of each? Are they similar? What if I had the AD role installed on the Server 2008 r2?
I have googled this question but still not understanding it clearly. When do you use these commands? Can someone please provide a simple explanation that covers all upgrades or migrations.
Many Thanks

Found that article to explain it a bit for you.
Basically you would run forestprep first then /domainprep /gpprep afterwards only for inplace upgrades. -

If you run into an issue with SYSVOL and NETLOGON shares not replicating send me a pm. I have two PDFs that are great for troubleshooting this.
