How can i get a health IT job without a healthcae background?

What's the best way to break into health IT if all your job experience is help desk work. My goal is to get a job at a hospital doing IT WORK. i have 3 years of credits towards a biology degree and close to 8 years working in the help desk. ive applied to several hospitals and havent gotten lucky with replies. It seems like a lot of hospitals want you to know medical software or have experience working in a healthcare environment. My ultimate goal is to go back to school and get a healthcare degree(biology, nursing, etc) and then to pa school. so right now i only prefer to work IT in a medical, science type environment. (hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, etc). would the health IT CERTIFICATE BE WORTH IT? there are 2 schools im looking at.
one in minnesota where i live now. and the other is in delaware- where im trying to relocate and get a job. (delaware, philly, baltimore, md area)
