Good free terminal emulator

I am not sure is this belongs in this forum but here it goes. I am studying for the CCNA exam and I need a good terminal emulator ( preferably free). I am currently using hyperterminal but I would like one that support encryption and serial ports for connecting to routers via the console port. Any recommendations?
