Exchange question for the experts.

I got an Exchange 2003 server that has 2 mailbox stores. At one time we had 3 with the 3rd being a test store. recently I decided I no longer needed this store and deleted it.

Of course as you know Exchange tells you to delete the database files manually.

Question is can I do this at any point? Will I screw anything up by removing the database files? Does it really hurt anything to just leave them there since there not really taking up any space?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
