Aside from having good customer service skills
Do you really just need google to solve most desktop support or Field Tech questions?
Im assuming this is like it should be

User has XYZ problem and you just google it thats it no?

If you just google everything, why would a company need you if anyone can do the same thing?

Ding Ding! I'm not sure if you're trolling, but you should know most of your job. You google the stuff you can't remember. No one should be expected to remember EVERY command all the time or things like blue screen stop messages, etc. If the PC had network problems you'd google what, "my pc has network problems?" you at least need the base knowledge to start to diagnose issues. If you get to specific details and need to look it up, sure, but your entire job, no way.

You may use Google or a knowledge base article for uncommon issues. You should know what most errors and messages mean.

Most issues that are common in a company should be well documented and known. Also, there will be many that you will never find an answer on Google due to proprietary applications/software. Google should be used for the odd and weird issues that many have not come across. Also, google should NEVER be the main source of troubleshooting for any good IT employee. That will come with experience and internal documentation. If you use google to do 90% of your job, you honestly aren't that great at your job and should completely reconsider IT and think about going into something else. I personally use google only really to reference odd things and commands that I rarely use and maybe need help with the syntax needed.

Then why do we need to pursue certifications (just think about it what's the importance of joining an IT certification forum/community or why are you here?) or get training, if we were all using Google to do our job then we wouldn't need certification and training and anyone would be hired to do the job regardless of experience or qualification. Like everyone else has advised Google is a tool that you can use when you are dealing a problem that you have never come across, but any way it doesn't necessarily mean that Google will have the solutions for all problems especially most IT problems. Some client will call in with problems that need to be resolved urgently you will still have to research the problem and apply the solution but it might not work sometimes then you will still have to go back and research the problem again so it's going to be a back and forth situation at same time the client is also getting impatient with you and will get the impression that you are failing to do your job and actually pissed off the end of the call.

Ignorance is bliss. Some people just want to use Google until they die.

This is definitely a trolling post.

If you think the OP is trolling just go see his other posts. They all have the same theme: staying within 8-5pm, not working a minute over 40 hours per week, not doing on-call. Funny thing is he keeps asking how to advance his career. Completely blows my mind.

LOL yea this post is just for laughs but I can definitely say that Googleing is an art and craft that also needs practice to master. Google has saved me in desperate times and being able to search correctly for my issue played a role in that.

We've called it "consulting the oracle". Rather than fumble through software or an error I'm not familiar with, I'll use it to fix something faster so I don't keep a client on the line for more than I need to.
