Error prompt - any ideas on what this is?

Initially I ran Sophos anti-virus scanner and Malwarebytes and neither found anything malicious. I have also run AdwCleaner and ComboFix (they did find and remove things) and used CCleaner to clean the Startup entries and the Registry. The PC was a bit slow at times, but does run reasonably well.

Can you offer any clue as to what sort of thing this might be, or where I might be able to find/eliminate it?

Could be a corrupted .DLL file on something, you don't have to be running the program that has the corrupted file to have it trigger an undefined error. The error prompt looks to be a Windows prompt, is this a Mac or a Win PC?

What did ADWcleaner and Combofix find?

Is there anything in the event logs?

Try running process explorer and process monitor to see if you can find anything else running.

Guessing you uninstalled all unneeded programs/bloatware...

When does this error occur? Upon loading windows? At random times? When opening a certain file? etc.

Depending on the above, you can try a system restore or sfc /scannow (if it seems Windows related).

You have a corrupted .DLL file somewhere in your OS, which version of windows will determine on how it gets repaired, have you installed or uninstalled any programs in the last couple of weeks? What were you doing when the error popped up? This actually used to be pretty common back in the day when you had several programs sharing .DLL files, they would over write each other and make a real mess when you uninstalled a program that was sharing a .DLL

Can you run sysinternals and see what file it maps back to?

If you need to go further down the malware path, did you run the programs in safe mode? If not try that. After that download an offline rescue disk like Kaspersky or Bit Defender.
