RSTP & CCNA?

So i've been reading the ICND CCNA book from Cisco press.
It goes off into a tangent about RSTP. I don't remember this stuff at all from the CCNA network academy in 2002-2003.

Do I have to know this for the exam? It's bad enough already learning one form of STP.
