Out of course, Curiosity question

Hey guys, so this is out of curiousity question.

Since i started learning abt port forwarding etc i realized that so much could be done with it. For example i created my own ftp server, i can remote access my pc from anywhere etc.

So i keep wondering is there any way i can create a home cloud storage or make ftp server fast enough that i can stream movies off of it. Like my own little home Netflix.

The server i created runs slow and it runs on my PC so if someone is trying to access/download file from it it makes my laptop slow.

So i thought why not just ask the gurus what they have set up as a streaming device at home and how its done?

I don't mind putting some money in it. Im just tired of downloading movies on one device and transfer it to other device or in a usb so other ppl at home can watch it. I want a device set up at home so my fam members can just go online and watch what i have downloaded.
