Hi Folks,
I need just some quick pointers.
I have tentatively sold a Business Intelligence Solution to a company in Toronto.
I need to quote for installation.
As a South African I, I have absolutely no clue what the consulting rates are like.
Can somebody more or less, give me the hourly rate for
1. Entry Level (a+,N+) kind of guy
2. Senior Consultant (Professional services, data, business)
3. Uber Consultant (specialist services, Business, Data, Accounting)

All my positions have been FTE, So I can't be of much help with rates. -

Entry level - $20-35 per hour (A+, basic desktop/systems support)
Intermediate - $35 - $50 per hour (Desktop Admin/Junior Sys Admin/ CCNA)
Senior Consultant - $50 - $100 per hour, it depends on the scale/service. (Senior Sys Admin / Storage / CCNP level / most ERP work would probably fit into here)
Uber Consultant - $100+ per hour, this would be CCIE level networking guys, high level Oracle/SAP type work or elite programming.http://www.darvilleit.com - a blog I write about IT and technology. -
nster Member Posts: 231I can confirm I've seen similar prices for Montreal, though the only "Uber Consultants" I've seen are more like 150$/hr

Much appreciated
philz, I agree with you completly, but I need a basis, I am quoting on 8 hours a day for a week, hence extrapolated, that should give me a base package that I can present so that my client can budget accordingly, and will cut the rates at that. -
LeBroke Member Posts: 490 ■■■■□□□□□□$50+ for break-fix or QA contractor. You'd pay this much for labour in a small repair shop as well.
$100 CDN/hour is on the low end for an MSP or contractor doing desktop support/jr admin work. You would also pay close to this amount if you went into a large chain repair shop.
~$180-250/hour for a senior consultant. My old company charges about that much for a security audit, but on a project basis.
Typically, in Canada you give the client a quote, i.e. "it will take us 10 billable hours to do this, therefore the entire project will cost $1800." From there, you can either charge a fixed amount ($1800 for the entire project, whether it takes you longer or shorter), or use $1800 as an estimate quote and charge whatever it costs. Either one is common, but be sure that both sides fully agree on it.
A week-long project, you're probably looking to charge $6,000-10,000 for a senior consultant. Companies like KPMG or Deloitte can get away with a lot more, but I'm assuming you're neither KPMG, nor Deloitte. -

And indeed, if I was KPMG, or Deloitte, I would either be shouting at consultants or on a beach in Hawaii or somewhere else
