Every project is different. I'm working on one moving to another state, 10gb link between them, 50 or so racks, mix of live vmotions and cold cutovers, while I've done DCMs that were just moving into another rack at same colo, but changing from all physical to all virtual. Scale and requirements vary greatly by project.

Very good explanations. I had been part of data center migration, but only just one part. It was gathering the information from customers(server owners) on preparation from P2V, but i never actually was doing the P2V in itself. This was a few years ago at my previous job, thus the job description here was a bit foreign to me. I guess when people ask about DC migration, we have to ask in depth on what that person did. There is also the facilities side of the migration regarding power, electrical wiring, etc. which is handled by the data center facilities manager. Also, some companies have the data center manager working on the technical side like you mentioned along with data center migration analyst. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
My guess is that they compensated you very well for this project? Also, most of these jobs are like 2-3 yr contracts right? Then, you have to find another job doing the same stuff for another company?
