Thoughts on specialized client server applications?

Just curious of the pros and cons on taking on this type of role. We have implemented a new risk management system by Archer and I volunteered to take on the administration responsibility for this enterprise tool. They are sending me to training etc to get ramped up. It's an RSA/EMC product and seems to be quite marketable.
I am usually putzing around with the SSMS, SSRS, Visual Studio etc. This is interesting because it's administration and actual usage through risk financials / profiling.
If you have had experience with this type of role I would appreciate hearing about the pros and cons. I am excited to be supporting a well established software while utilizing it's capabilities.
