Can someone explain CompTIA A+?

ogeezusogeezus Member Posts: 7 ■□□□□□□□□□
Hi guys,
I recently just heard about CompTIA A+ while I was looking for entry-level IT jobs. I'm a fresh IT graduate, and this is what they mostly ask for when I look at the job descriptions.

I just want to know;
how many exams are there for the CompTIA A+?
how long are the exams?
What format are the questions/answers e.g. multiple choices?
what latest books should I purchase to help me self-study for the exams?
what is the average price of the exam?

I have found a exam centre near me which is great news, hopefully I can pass this under 3 months.

And I would be grateful for any other advice you guys have,
Thanks.

EDIT: I completely forgot to mention I live in the U.K, and all the prices I stumble upon are in dollars, so I'm not sure what to expect in terms of pricing.

    UNNECESSARY QUOTE

The CompTIA site is a great place and a good resource that has answers to many of your questions. Including test centers in UK. Have you looked at that? Here is the link CompTIA A+ Certification

Hi, I found the test centre but I cant find the last the 3 questions.
how many exams are there for the CompTIA A+? 801 and 802
how long are the exams? length of test is 90 mins
What format are the questions/answers e.g. multiple choices?
what latest books should I purchase to help me self-study for the exams?
what is the average price of the exam?

do the books get out of date, due to new hardware such as smartphones etc? therefore I should be looking at 2014+ books?

    edit: found some books

I'm not sure where you are looking but CompTIA's site has all the pricing info.

    Exam Prices

I recommend searching here for the "Passed A+" threads as you will be able to see all resources and study plans that folks used. Best of luck!

Personally I used Professer Messer's videos combined w/ the A+ Exam Cram book when I passed my A+.

If you have limited PC hardware experience you might want to look at Mike Meyer's A+ book instead.

hi thanks to everyone for their replies!

I just wanted to clarify is it true these certifications only last 3 years?

And lets say I pass the 801 and fail the 802, would I be able to retake just the 802 or would I need to redo them both?

and @cyberguypr, I took a look at the comp tia a+ price for the UK, it's £113, is that just for 1 exam out of the 2? (801 & 802) or both?

many thanks to everyone for their replies.

The A+ is a 3 year certification. When you get 2 or 2 1/2 years in, you can take your Network+ and it will renew your A+ for 3 more years. Same amount of time later you can take the Security+ and it will renew your Network+ and A+ again for 3 more years. Note that you cant let them expire. From what I understand if you let it expire, you will have to retake them again.

    This site might help: https://certification.comptia.org/stayCertified/how-to-renew.aspx

I'd be happy to do the security+ and network+ in a few years time as suggested, so far I have got all the answers I wanted.

I just have 1 last query, regarding the prices.

    Exam Prices
    For

    Great Britain
    GBP
    113

Does that include both tests 801 and 802 or do I have to pay 113 (x2)?
