VTP version 1 and 2 behavior

My notes from the OCG say that switches capable of running VTP v2 can coexist with v1 switches, but only if v2 is disabled (but if enabled, it will update all other v2 switches).

What isn't clear from the OCG is whether there is a difference in behavior between switches with VTP version 1 and switches with VTP version 2 but with version 2 disabled (and so, should be behaving as v1).

I've got 3 2950 switches all with VTP version 2 (which I don't think I can change to version 1). However this makes it behave as if it were v1:

Switch-01(config)#vtp version 1
Switch-01(config)#exit
Switch-01#sh vtp stat
VTP Version : 2
Configuration Revision : 8
Maximum VLANs supported locally : 128
Number of existing VLANs : 7
VTP Operating Mode : Server
VTP Domain Name : test
VTP Pruning Mode : Enabled
VTP V2 Mode : Disabled
VTP Traps Generation : Disabled
MD5 digest : 0xB3 0x09 0xEE 0xD5 0x55 0xED 0xAB 0xAA
Configuration last modified by 10.0.0.103 at 3-1-93 03:53:55
Local updater ID is 10.0.0.101 on interface Vl1 (lowest numbered VLAN interface found)

Yet, adding vlans to this switch (v1) makes them appear on my v2 switches and adding them on my v2 switches also makes them appear here.

What am I missing? Is there a difference in behavior between V2 acting as V1 and V1?

More importantly, how do I answer a question like this on the exam when you know it isn't going to be clear to tell which they mean?
