Old study material -Snow Leopard vs using Yosemite

I'm pretty new to Mac OS X. I've been supporting Windows environments for the past few years but the learning curve has been super easy. I've been working with Mac OS X lately at work so that I can better support it and was given a Macbook for work use. A co-worker gave me his old Apple Training Series textbook for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. My work laptop is on Yosemite. Is it worth it for me to read through this old book or can I still pick up any valuable information?
