Does anyone know what this is all about?

I got an email about this yesterday. I knew it wouldn't be long before they changed the name. Hacker in the title was just a bit over the top for a lot of businesses.

So, does this mean that we are CNDAs now....or do you have to take the v4 test? Did the letter say anything about it? It does have a less "In your face" name. I think the old name scared people that did not understand it.

I am not sure. I did send them an email asking if it was a new course or a name change. Will see what the answer is when they respond.

They can definitely improve in the communication area... if it is a name change, all CEHs should have had an announcement email by now... and a new cert? icon_wink.gif

I received a response back on it. All they did in the email is say to go to http://www.eccouncil.org/cnda.htm and it will answer all the questions on it. Looking at the FAQ it seems it is only for US government departments.

just a way to make more money....If your going to change the name they should have added some more government specific info.

I assume that if we've already passed the CEH exam, there's no way for us to receive a "revised" certificate with the new title, unless we pay to sit the exam again...right?

It's strictly for government employees, however it's the exact same curriculum as C|EH. Kenny is right, money seems to be the motive here. And I also agree with Johan, I too have been very disappointed in the communications from the EC Council.

Check this link http://www.eccouncil.org/cnda.htm and compare it with http://www.eccouncil.org/CEH.htm - Its the same thing. What is the value for existing CEH if they are going to certify some of the candidates as CNDA?

Everything is the same. There is no alteration. Its not just money here... If some of us are going to be CEH and some CNDA, wont one destroy the value of the other? They are out to squeeze every last drop of money they can - think about it... To do LPT, you must have attended training. Check their website http://eccouncil.org/lpt/LPT-Course-Outline.htm

Look at the cost - 2500 USD and see what you get in return

Plaque with your name on it
    LPT License card
    Resource CD-ROMS
    LPT T-shirts
    LPT caps
    LPT Certificate
    LPT Lapel Pin
    Membership ID

The million dollar question - license for what???

I asked about taking the CDNA after I had been approved for self study on the CEH.. the response was "The CNDA is meant for special US govt projects and not available to anyone else. "

I don't know if they meant to do this, but it really looks kind of funny, in the CNDA description. They keep on using the term "hacker" in such a negative connotation, over and over. Makes you wonder if there'll be some confusion when this new cert begins to get a little more popular:

"Hi, I'm a Certified Network Defense Architect."

"Really? That's very cool, I'm a Certified Ethical Hacker."

And if the first guy has been engrained with the word "hacker" meaning "bad guy", like the blurb for the CNDA implies, I can totally see some. . . err. . . "interesting" misunderstandings happening. LOL

(That's not to say that the blurb doesn't do a good job of saying that penetration testing and ethical hacking is a good thing. However, it's not security professionals and other IT people that understand the value of this certification who'll read it and want to put it into effect at their companies. It's going to be HR personnel; government HR personnel, no less.)
