Spybot Takes Forever to Run A Scan?

I've been running Spybot 2.4.40.0 on a Win 7 Enterprise laptop ( 16GB of RAM and Intel Core i7, full patched) for quite some time with no issues.
I've noticed in the last few weeks, where it would take 20 minutes to run a full scan, it now takes 2 to 3 hours to run a full scan. Some of the advice I've seen to fix this is, either run an older version of switch to something else.
Any one else having this issue? If so, how was it fixed?

Just my personal laptop. Haven't run it in safe mode, the laptop isn't having any issues. I thought Safe Mode was for the Windows OS and/or Windows Software, so I'm not sure what good that would do.
