Ever apply to the same job twice?

thomas_thomas_ Member Posts: 1,012 ■■■■■■■■□□
I saw a job posting pop up for the same job I applied to about 3 months ago. They interviewed me and I wasn't selected(never heard back.)

I'm just wondering if it's worth it to try to apply to it again?

i've applied to & interviewed at a few firms multiple times....now, the reapplies were a few years later than the original applies though. And everytime its been the same manager as well...not sure if they remembered me, i didn't ask, and they didn't tell...

I did that twice recently. First two times I didn't get past phone screen on one and first interview on other. Second times I made it farther but still didn't get picked.

Give it a try, yesterday I applied for a job I interviewed for a year ago, pre-experience. I bombed the interview, it was very high-pressure but I won't be surprised to get another interview with my current resume.

I got my current job by reapplying again a year later. I didn't even realize it until after I went to respond to one of the recruiter's emails. She was already in my list of contacts from applying to them previously.

The first time I applied, I was given a phone interview in which I was quickly disqualified. During the year in between I earned the LPIC-1 which they were really interested in applicants having. I passed the interview and here I am. I'm not even sure they realize that I had applied a year prior.

Would you contact them if you applied again or just wait and see if they call?

It happened to me. I just didn't care what they would have thought of me.

This happens too often to warrant worrying about. Budget could be pulled for position, they could be just posting to check out candidates, they could have really liked you but chose someone else and this time around you would be the strong candidate, they could admire your commitment, they could be a huge company and not even realize you applied previously.

Overall, who cares? We all hate HR departments

I would not hesitate to apply again. There could be different people, different needs and hey maybe the last person did not work out. Showing continued interest in a company is a good thing.

One of the PC techs at a previous job of mine had to apply 3 times before he got hired. He interviewed every time and finally on the 3rd interview, he asked why he hadn't gotten the position yet. They told him straight up that the only reason he wasn't hired right away was because they hired internal candidates the first two times. Definitely go for it.

Assuming you dyed your hair and grew (or shaved) some facial hair so they didn't recognize you?

    LOL. They did recognize me.

Absolutely apply again. Positions open up, hiring managers seek resumes, then fill the positions. All of those resumes might get filed and saved somewhere, but probably never seen again. The same position opens up again a few months later, manager starts looking for new resumes.
Maybe the first time they just had a candidate that outshined you and this time you'll be the star. Maybe they were looking for someone to fill a role that wasn't conveyed well in the job posting (this never happens, HR always posts exactly what the manager is looking for...) and this time they want someone like you. Reapplying never hurts.

I guess I'll go ahead and reapply. It's a job I would really like to have and the only way I can have a chance at getting it is to reapply.
Would you contact them if you applied again or just wait and see if they call?

I'm going to reapply wait and see if they call me in for an interview.

I've done exactly that, and I got the job on the second interview.

You got as far as the interview, so it's definitely worth trying again. Read up on the company and show them that you really want to work for them. Look up the names of the people you talked with the last time, it makes you seem familiar with the company.

What's a good time frame to reapply for a job you have your eyes on?

I applied once as a junior network engineer and was turned down for not enough experience. Fast forward a few years and I interviewed for a sr. network engineer role and got the job. The guy who interviewed me both times remembered me as well. It worked out and I miss the people there, but not the environment.

I have applied to Novo Nordisk a few times since one of their major plants is right next to my house. Its amazing though that even though I have worked at Cisco for a couple of years now, I still don't get any interest from them. Now that I am working on the federal side of Cisco my days of applying to Novo are probably done.

I feel sometimes if you do not have certain keywords in your resume, you don't even get passed the HR department.
It doesn't hurt to try again.

I applied to my current position and got a robo-denial from the HR system. So I forgot about it, a few weeks later I was approached by a head-hunter with the position. I ended up getting an in-person interview a few days later.

    Good Luck

I applied to my current that "required" a Bachelor's degree and did not get called (only had 2 Associate's). So I enrolled in WGU, updated my resume, and a month later when the job was re-listed I re-applied and ultimately got the job.

As for interviewing and not getting it, then getting another interview later...I've never heard of it.
