I am a desktop/systems administrator for a healthcare company and have dabbled some interest in web development. Any recommendations on what to study and where online if possible?? I have been in IT for six years almost and want to specialize now. I know that web development there are plenty of opportunities and even some you can work from home. I would eventually also like to start a part time business for web development. Any feedback and career advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

There are more emerging technologies in the dev world than any other aspect of IT, so you'll have to be learning new sexy languages all the time, new platforms, new tools, etc. Do you currently know any programming languages? Depending on what part of web dev you want to focus on, Ruby, Java, and .NET will bring you far for the modern "big players". Additional items like node.js, Docker, AWS, Git, should all be in your field of vision.
Disclaimer: I am not a dev but have a ton of friends who are devs, have worked with devs, and have done a fair amount of web application security. There are basically two sides to the IT-house, IMO: Development/programming, and infrastructure. The fields can blend but that's how I split things down the middle.
Edit: It would be irresponsible to not introduce you to OWASP top 10 as you begin to explore this side of IT. Unfortunately security is one of the last things developers are taught/focus on but code is at the source of everything and if devs/programmers start with this in mind (learn from lessons past) we don't have to band-aid so much on the infrastructure side.
