An interesting review about a new wireless technology faster than fiber:

Sounds like a natural evolution.

This article does not actually compare the speed of WiFiber technology with that of optical fiber. A quick look at their web site shows a theoretical maximum transmission rate of 10Gbps for WiFiber. While that is certainly up in the optical fiber bandwidth range, fiber can still transmit data faster and over longer distances. They really need to rename that article.
Anyhow, the distance that WiFiber covers and the frequencies used look very good. It's actually a wireless replacement for DSL as the "last mile of copper" and not meant for very long-haul data links. When DSL was first marketed thirteen or so years ago they used the term "CopperOptics" to sell it. I guess the Holy Grail is to have a non-fiber product that's "faster" than fiber. Good luck.
