question about 10base FL

Reference page 5 of 14 10 Base FL (802.3u) In the TechNotes it states that 10 Base FL operates over two strands of multimode fiber cabling, this is a bit confusing, I thought that single mode fiber used 2 strands, one for sending and one for receiving. I hope some one can help, thanks Henno
