Three years latter... and finally got an interview..

paul78paul78 Member Posts: 3,016 ■■■■■■■■■■
Well... I've been casually looking for a new job for the past 2-3 years. I finally actually got a meeting yesterday. It went pretty well and I'm hoping that the next meeting will actually get scheduled and go just as well.

It's a great company and fits exactly what I want to do. I'm terribly excited but don't want to get my hopes up too much. I am guessing that I will probably take a reduction in my compensation but I'm wiling to consider the risks for the upside.

It's been such a long time since I have been on any kind of interview that I struggled with basics like whether I should wear a tie. LOL.

I don't really have anyone to share this adventure with other than my direct family so thought I would post here to share.

Wish me luck! :D

Congrats and good luck. What is causing you to look for a new job, and why do you feel you may/should take a pay cut?

I've been looking not for any one reason but a myriad of little things. It's mostly because I'm been feeling frustrated and bored. I am wanting a more dynamic environment where the culture of the company is vibrant and the politics more manageable. I miss small startups and I want a role where I will have more autonomy to run a technology organization.

It's my current role, I work for a large successful Fortune 500 firm and my responsibilities come a healthy compensation. A smaller startup is not going to be able to afford the same compensation levels so I expect a "pay cut" but in return I expect the difference to be made up of shares of the firm - i.e. the upside that I mentioned.

My wife and I were speaking about it this evening and we think that I could take about a %40 cut from my total compensation as a risk venture.

coffeeluvr - Thanks for the well wishes.

    Thanks everyone :)

My interview last week went well and I spent the entire afternoon at the company but I still haven't spoken to their recruiter. I did get a voicemail from the recruiter today so hopefully that conversation will go well.

So far it's a big unknown about what's going on... I did finally talk with the recruiter but there it was very perfunctory and our conversation was quite lackluster. And I can't decide if they are just waiting on a bigger candidate pool. My current theory is that the CEO is not the decision maker and that the investors may have their own candidates. Oh well - I shall see next week. icon_tongue.gif

Well... Still no concrete word. I've met with a few more people at the company. At this point, I am hoping that they will eventually run out of people for me to talk to. icon_lol.gif And make a decision.

I despise that. At least they are still talking with you. I'd ask HR what the heck is going on though.

It feels like just growing pains. It's a small company so I imagine that the CEO is still just being cautious since they have new investors watching all the decisions. They did dig up more people for me to meet. I am enjoying all the stimulating conversations but the waiting is excruciating.

Meet with more people today and got a note from the recruiter requesting a meeting. Apparently, they will make a decision next week so I have my fingers cross. We haven't discussed compensation yet so hopefully that will go smoothly.

Thanks @greg9891. I got a note today that they would like another meeting icon_rolleyes.gif. At least, they are still willing to talk with me.

One of things about the job interview process that I find difficult is the emotional ups and downs.

That part sucks so much. They say don't take it personally..but really..how can you not?

    how can you not?
Thanks - it's such a roller-coaster of emotions. And when I try to rationalize it - it makes it worst. Because I know there is a chance that I will not get the offer. I just know that it's the job that I want even with the risk of less initial compensation. I like the company and people. I have a few more meetings next week and I understand that the decision will be made next week.
  • paul78paul78 Member Posts: 3,016 ■■■■■■■■■■
I had 3 more meetings which I hope went well. I imagine it did otherwise the next meetings would not have been requested. One of the meetings, I did request which they obliged so it sounded like they are still interested in me.

I did also get a request to provide some references which they have started to contact.

So I'm feeling a bit more upbeat with each meeting but the process is really grinding me down. I do hope that a decision will be reached this week.

    Wish me luck. :)

    Hoping things work for you.

I assume this has got to be a Director level position with all of these in person meetings. Going to have to start charging travel expenses!

    WOw dude... still more meetings?
I hope it goes well for you.
Let us know how it goes.

I'm currently in senior-level management at a Fortune 500 company. This opportunity is for a C-level position at a much smaller company. It is a lot of meetings. And the reality is that I'm really getting a bit fatigued over the anxiety of making it to the next step. The meetings and calls that I'm having this week are with board members.

I did learn that they are calling my references so I hope that's a good sign. I was told that they would make a decision this week so I'm very anxious to hear my fate. icon_eek.gif
