XBMC / KODI users

Hi does any one here use Kodi?
I installed it on a windows laptop, and when I add videos to the library (short home clips) the appear in the Libuary with an image / Thumbnail. However using Linux with the same release of Kodi the library just shows black tiles. On the latop it is pure Kodi while Linux is running OpenELC, but both are running Kodi 15.1.
Does any one know how you can get Kodi to generate its thumbnails from the video file?
