CIW Certifications

I've been doing a search and I see that a lot of you guys don't like the CIW certifications.
My question is the self study kits by CIW enough to pass the class? I'm having to start dabbling in HTML and CSS for my employer and I'm thinking the test would be a nice way to know how much I know from studying HTML and CSS (it would probably make them feel better).
So I don't need it to get a job. Trying to see if the knowledge is decent.
