Inter-switch heartbeat

Hey guys,
is there a feature I can setup on a 3750G that allows me to make like a heartbeat connection for the sole purpose of STP root bridge selection. Like in my mind if I have a core switch, being a 3750G, that is the root bridge, if it goes down and it's the root bridge it has to then select a different core switch to be a root bridge during the election process. But what if these core switches had a heartbeat to the other, so that the election process would be quicker.
Is something like this even possible?
I'm not finding anything in my ICDN2 book so I presume this might be a higher level knowledge.
The only thing I can find is VSS, but not sure if that's supported on a 3750G, any help is appreciated.

I haven't had much trouble with stackwise, but VSS has been a major pain in most deployments I've worked. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.
