OK Help with setup

I set up a win2003 server and did dcpromo to set up AD. Added a user name and password to log on from a client xp pc.

When I use this log on it is so slow. I have a router and one other pc on this network. The other pc is not in the domain. Do I need to also make the server a DNS server ? Will this make the log on faster. Somthing is wrong with the way I have this set up just not sure what.

i don't know about the speed, but your DC should also be a DNS server.

_omni_ is correct. After you set your clients to use your DC as their DNS server then you should have the speed issue resolved.

on the client to the ip address of the server. Now it is really fast. Not really sure at this point why that made it quicker. It works
