jobs for experience for what i'm in school for

i just wanted to know if anybody knew of some good jobs i could do to gain experience in what i am in school for ---- i am majoring in MIS with a minor in IT. would ultimately like to be a MIS or IT Director somewhere one day - and had thought about going or calling some of the local hospitals or banks or something of that sort and talking with the MIS Dir there and seeing if there was anything i could do -- pay or no pay, still experience, right? just wondering if anybody had any ideas
