70-680 worth it at this point?

Hi everyone,

Wondering if it's even worth it to look into this cert, or wait for a Windows 10 cert.

I was contemplating this too. If I can jam this and the 685 in before they expire, will the Windows 7 MCSA still carry weight within the next year or two? Would it be a strong compliment to the MCSA on Server 2012 that I'm working towards, or am I just trying to cram in tests to fill time?

I'm in the same situation you could still take it and receive the Microsoft Specialist title for it. It's something at least. I wanted to do both the 70-680 and 70-685, but I know that I wont get both done before the November deadline to receive the MCSA title. I'll probably take one then wait for the Windows 10 version of it.

I think that Windows 7 is going to be around in business environments for a while yet. I understand Microsoft wanting to move folks on along to the newer OS, but there's going to be a lot of money for IT Professionals in supporting and configuring 7. But perhaps the better longer term move is to just finish up the MCSA in Server 2012 and move more towards VMWare or Hyper-V specialization. Client support and configuration is a limiting area of expertise in the long run, but can be used as a great support for server or service configuration and/or administration.

Just got out of a chat with MS the MCSA for Win7 retired September 30. You can now get the specialist thing by passing the 680 or 685 etc.

yeah, from what I was understanding, is the exam will still exist, just the MCSA cert is going. So I thought it'd still be worth doing the exams. I'm planning on doing them beginning of January.

I still think it matters as my job is requiring that we take both 680 & 685. It can't hurt to have it.
