So I had an interview early this week and they contacted me yesterday saying they will be sending me an offer (yay!) The question I have is if their offer is lower than what I requested am I able to counter that or is the offer a "set in stone" type thing?

Make sure to not just look at money. Benefits can play a large part of taking a lower salary as well as other benefits. If you do not have to pay for medical insurance for you or your family (huge cost saving) or time off or even education cost covered. Dont go into it narrow minded and be confident in your statements. Also having a budget that shows you what you are able to live with is important. sometimes being able to work in an environment that is helpful to grow as a professional (under a mentor in your field) is great but the salary is not amazing, but it allows you to provide for you and your family, might be worth it.Completed: CISSP, GPEN, GWAPT, CCSA R80, eJPT, CySA+, M.S. I do this with more than half of the candidates that apply at my company. It's important that you word it in a way that is respectful, reasonable & not as an ultimatum. I recommend doing this over the phone.

Why over the phone? More of an 'on the spot' moment that could possibly more accurately reveal the amount budgeted for the position? Or is it just easier and quicker to negotiate verbally?2017 Goals: 70-411 [X], 74-409 [X], 70-533 [X], VCP5-DCV [], LX0-103 [], LX0-104 []

It's easier to say no VIA email, so your chance of a successful negotiation is going to be better over phone (or in-person).
