I am currently a high school senior interested in pursuing a career in an IT related field. I just have a few questions when it comes to choosing the right college major that will lead to the most job opportunities after college. What, in your opinion, is the best degree to go to college for that will lead to the most job opportunities in the IT field?
Also, what did you major in? How long did it take you to get a job after graduating college? Any other advice? Thank you!

Most community colleges offer networking specific degrees. For the BA/BS level, Computer Science is usually a solid major. There is some flexibility in the choice of majors. IT is a very broad field. Do you have a specific place in IT where you would like to end up? Having a major that lands you a job that you absolutely hate will do you no good. Some people will advise to select a major that you enjoy rather than what looks best on a resume. In a way, I agree with this. Most of the companies I have worked for did not care what the degree was in, as long as you had one.
Career options post graduation will vary, depending on where you are and what the market looks like when you graduate. Building connections while you are still studying, including internships will assist you with the job search. Don't fall into the thinking that because you have a degree you will qualify for mid level positions. You may still end up working help desk to build your initial experience. I would actually recommend trying to find a part-time tech or help desk position while you study. A degree + experience + some certification will help you, along with those connections you should be trying to make during your time in school.
