Self studying for A+ Any pointers??

Hi.I'm just beginning studying for my comptia A+ exams, but have no idea the approach to take etc.A user on another forum, drop boxed me some notes but, again, there's quite a bit, and I have no idea where to start.
And in the Sybex folder, there's chapters 12 through 16, with appendices.I see this website has some resources for studying for A+.Again, I'm a total blank slate as far as this is concerned.If I have the material I need laid out in front of me, and know what I need to learn for the exam, then I can make some progress but, at the moment, I don't even know where to start.Any pointers would be great....?Also - do I need to acquire an old laptop or computer or something to practice switching out boards and stuff??
