Question On VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP)

Hi all,

I have a problem with VTP.

The book I'm reading (exam prep by que) states that, we use VTP to dynamically assign VTP number and name (such as VLAN 10 marketing , VLAN 10 engineering etc) ,,, but VTP can't help us assign the port membership asignment (such as int fa0/1 becomes member of VLAN 10 etc)


wow! is VTP helpfull?????????

if you still have to go from switch to switch just to assign membership of individual ports to vlan 10 or anyother vlan VTP create for us...why bother with VTP in the first place????????you might as well type the number and the name while you are at the switch assigning membership!

am I missing something important??????????

remember it does advertisements, so what happens if u change something about a vlan and u rnt using vtp u have to change it on every swicth, where as u would do it on the vtp server and it will advertise the changes to everyone in the vtp domain
