Hey guys,
I don't post too much often but here is the scoop. My manager is looking for a new employee for our NOC.
This is an overnight position.
It is in the DC Metro area within the Beltway. It's in MD. You will be contracted to work at one of the Federal Agencies My manager and other guys have already interviewed several candidates and they got grilled to say the least (at least from what I heard). I can tell you right off the bat that this will look awesome on your resume
Position: Full time (Contractor) *You are a contractor but you still get the usual benefits and whatnot.
Hours: Mon-Fri, 8-4(Training) and 12pm to 12am (3 or 4 days a week) (After training)
Experience: I believe 2-3 years w/ an associates/degree or 4 years without a degree. *They are pretty strict on having a candidate with education.
Pay: Your typical NOC position. Google is your friend. One thing I can say is you get about 15-17% increase in pay if you start the night shift after the training period. I believe the training period is about 4 to 6 months.
About the position:
-Monitor and TROUBLESHOOT network problems (Layer 1 - 4) *You actually get to troubleshoot unlike some NOCs
-Juniper, Cisco, Ciena. (Mostly Juniper for now but that might change) We also have DWDMs and not many network professionals get to play with them. (Also troubleshooting)
-Mostly Linux. *I will still look at your resume if you are a Windows guy
-Wireshark/tcpdump
-Dealing with circuits. *I would say pretty telecom heavy.
I would say this is more of a junior to a mid level NOC environment.
This is a public trust position. You will be sponsored if you don't have any type of clearance.
The reason why I'm posting this way is they want me to refer somebody that I know. I want to give you guys a shot but I'm not randomly going to suggest someone I don't know. They are pretty desperate to hire someone and I think they want to use their budget before it goes away. Please pm me if you are interested by saying "I'm IN!" If you have any questions, please post in the thread and I will try to reply back in a timely manner. I will leave the thread open til about the 3rd or 4th depending on the interest level. Again, I'm not sure how many people, I will select to have them apply for this position. I will email the selected individual the job posting and they can decide if they want to apply then.
Advice: Please know what you put on your resume because you will get grilled. I will feel embarrassed for myself and for you. You will be feeling the effect tenfold. I know some people inflate their resume a bit and I admit that I have also done that when I first started out. Just giving you guys a heads up.
Do not apply if you have no experience. I will also tell you if you are overqualified.
MODS: Please let me know if I am adhering to the rules on this forum.
Edit* If you are a pure Cisco guy, don't worry about it. The transition is not too hard.

When you meant "experience", you refer to IT in general or specific NOC role?Gallager00 wrote: »Do not apply if you have no experience. I think they want at least a year exp of NOC but I think they also look at your thought process.
Shoot me your resume if you are interested. The worst thing that will happen is you get shot down...not literally.2016 Goals: CCNA Security, CCNA Data Center, VCP6-NV. Mostly focusing on skills rather than certs.
