Gartner Critical Capabilities for Public Cloud Infrastructure as a Service

The Gartner Critical Capabilities 2015 report is available and you can download it from AWS. The magic quadrant from other reports looks good on a marketing slide, but this report goes into far more depth on the actual capabilities of each vendor. This is an IaaS assessment, so no Salesforce or Office 365, just computing services. It's worth a read to see some specific things vendors do better or different.

Last year AWS really got dinged on not having a fast restart option available, but they have added that feature to some regions. Now EC2 instances can be automatically recovered when their physical host fails. I had to build a new Exchange server this summer when the physical host was failing and was about to be retired, too bad we didn't have auto recovery in the US-West2 region then.
