The network engineer will be responsible for the operation and sustainment of all the deployed Palo Alto firewalls. Additional duties will be:

Job Description
The network engineer will be responsible for the operation and sustainment of all the deployed Palo Alto firewalls. Additional duties will be:
- Perform system monitoring from Ft Meade, MD and resolving any performance related issues.
- Monitor and report the impact of system design changes in the IT Enterprise Tier II Incident Management SOP.
- Perform Tier III troubleshooting and problem resolution on Palo Alto firewalls.
- Resolve LAN/WAN engineering problems associated with IT Enterprise firewall
- Perform critical/emergency Tier III system administration tasks (e.g., firewall), with Government watch officer concurrence, to keep systems running (e.g. maintain 24/7 availability)
- Execute patching and system updates for the IT Enterprise firewall.
- Provide recommendations for system optimization and perform any approved changes to the baseline.
- Interface with vendors and Technical Support Reps, with government watch officer concurrence, to resolve hardware and software issues on IT Enterprise firewalls.
- These activities will include the resolution of trouble tickets at all locations.
- Maintaining required OS upgrades to all deployed systems.
- Update the IT Enterprise Incident Management SOP, record, assess, track, monitor, and escalate trouble tickets for IT Enterprise incidents and problem resolution, and verify with the IT Enterprise customer when the incident/problem has been resolved.
- Provide technical expertise sufficient to resolve IT Enterprise Tier II/III problem resolution with respect to Firewalls.
- Apply configuration changes approved by the government and documented with the Change Control Management Board (CCMB).
- Perform knowledge transfer and training to incumbent tier II staff as requested.
- Populate and maintain the content of the IT Enterprise Knowledgebase (i.e., the known error database) self-help service.
Required Skills:
Strong hands-on experience with Palo Alto and/or Cisco firewalls (building, deploying and configuring firewalls)
Strong overall networking experience with the following:
- IPsec VPNs
- TCP and UDP
- DNS, RPC, HTTP etc.
- OSPF and BGP routing protocols
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant field or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years hand’s on experience with networks, including Palo Alto and Cisco Internetwork Operating System (IOS).
- Demonstrating ability to configure switches/routers, including upgrades, port opening/closing and installation.
- Firewall management, including configuration and approved policy implementation
- Strong analytical and exceptional problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be a US Citizen
- All personnel requiring SCI, Top Secret or IT-I eligibility under this contract must undergo a favorably adjudicated Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) as a minimum investigation.
Preferred Skills:
- CISSP or other security-based certification
