No job section on company website - bad to call/email?

Theres a company that does Information Security in my city and I've seen them post up jobs twice.
Would it be bad to call and ask or shoot an email about any job positions? I know that some companies will have a 'careers' section on the website with something like, "shoot us your resume/cover letter and we'll see". I don't wanna ruin any future chances or anything like that.
