Weird IE problem

I have encountered a weird IE problem on my home pc today. one two occasiosn, IE has suddenly displayed a page cannot be displayed message, the cursor starts flashing and multiple IE windows start to open all of which display page cannot be displayed.

I haven't come across anything like this before. Once all the windows are closed you can then open IE as normal and it works fine.

I ran a full NAV scan and anti spyware program and they both came up ok.

Anyone ever heard of anything like this before?
Using XP Home SP2, IE 6.0 SP2

I could very well be that IE is corrupted.
First up - what spyware scans did you use?

It does sound like a buggy piece of spyware. Maybe it's new or newly modified and it's not in the spyware scanner def files yet. It also helps to run several different spyware scanners. No single scanner detects all virii, Malware, or spyware.

If you are running XP I suggest Ewido - plus the online scan from Trend Micro.
