Sqrrl and Python Scripting

So my new job threw me a curve ball. It never came up in the interview that they would want me to search and hunt for data in SQRRL databases and write python scripts to do the searching. I am not a DB guy nor a developer or program writer. What are some good resources to learn how to search in sorrel databases. I have went through learn Python the hard way and that was OK but not nearly enough for what they are wanting me to do. Thanks in advance for any resources.
